Sr Daisy, du continent de l’Asie (in English)

It was the first time that I attended the general chapter. I had my fears and thoughts of inadequacy and unworthiness coupled with the joy of participating in such a solemn and great event in the life of the Congregation.

IT WAS THE FIRST TIME.........

It was the first time that I attended the general chapter. I had my fears and thoughts of inadequacy and unworthiness coupled with the joy of participating in such a solemn and great event in the life of the Congregation. I am grateful to God and to my sisters for this duty and opportunity that I was offered.

My experience at the chapter was very good and I am sure that it has marked my life for ever in a unique way. It was a privileged moment for me to be able to live and work with so many of my sisters and brothers from all over the world !

“The covenant they live together in an international congregation binds the sisters to each other in a common destiny” says the Prologue of the Rule of Life. I do feel connected and am happy to share in our common destiny.

The internationality was a true and lived experience for me. “Unity in Diversity” is no more a cliché that I repeat, but a reality that is part of my being. It was a beautiful and stirring experience for me to be in the midst of such vast differences of nationalities, cultures, languages, and modes of living and understanding the assumption charism while adapting it to the local realities of each place in four different continents.

The acceptance and respect for persons and their differences that I witnessed and lived throughout the Chapter is a cause for great joy and a sign of hope for me and for the world. It energizes me to dream and work for a world where people would respect and accept each other more and more with their differences of race and color and religion and culture and all those things that divide them make them fearful of each other ! May your Kingdom come ! And may we the Assumption be an instrument that hastens its coming...

It was a great joy for me to know and understand Assumption in a deeper way through the many sisters who were present there. I was able to create some good relationships that are going to last. And I consider it one of the most valuable gifts that I brought along with me.

The election of the General Council was a deep experience of solidarity with each sister in the Congregation and also the friends of Assumption who have placed their trust in each of the chapter member. The simplicity and courage with which the old and new council lived the change was just beautiful... I feel deeply grateful.

The time with the lay friends was extremely enriching. The interest and care they take in the growth of Assumption is inspiring. Their courage and enthusiasm was contagious. With such wonderful people around us who love Marie Eugenie so much, I feel that God is truly taking care of Assumption.

The chapter was demanding too. I needed to be continuously aware of my tendency to understand and evaluate people and events from my own limited perspective and experience. I was constantly being invited to go beyond and to enter into the world of the other, to embrace differences and to look at life with care and compassion. I felt that it was important to keep myself open to let the newness of the Spirit break into our life and work in the Chapter.

As a whole it was a very beautiful experience. An experience of sharing in the common destiny of humanity and the cosmos.
